Nature: Roaring River

I read an article in the on line Joplin Globe that made me a little homesick.

There was an article about the opening day of trout season at Roaring River State Park, which is located near Cassville, Missouri.

While I’ve never been there to fish on opening day, it’s something that I’ve heard about every year for my entire life.

When you hear, "It's opening day at Roaring River", you know that Spring is here!! They also have a fishing tournament every summer.

You can go to Roaring River State Park to fish, walk trails, tour the hatchery and sit at the waterfall. It’s a beautiful place. I don’t know if the water fall is a natural occurrence or if it’s man made, but my favorite thing to do there is to sit and listen to the little waterfall.

“The Missouri Department of Conservation hatchery at Roaring River State Park produces and stocks more than 250,000 rainbow trout each year. Most end up in the 1.6 miles of trout stream that lie within the boundaries of Roaring River State Park.”

The biggest fish taken Wednesday morning at Roaring River weighed 6.82 pounds.”

The state record rainbow trout, weighing just over 18 pounds, was caught in 2004 at Roaring River. “

Quotes were taken from the March 2nd edition of the Joplin Globe.

Oh my goodness, Ava. I haven't been there in years! I think last time I went was with my parents and grandparents.

It's been a long time for me as well. I think the last time I was there was around nine years ago.

Time sure flies!!!
