Memories, General: Thought of the Day ...
Remember knockers?
No, not the boob kind ... the other kind.
They were two round clear marble balls, about two to three inches in diameter. They were on a string about 18 inches long. You held the center of the string so that the marbles dangled at equal level, then you used an up and down motion to bounce the two balls together. This created a "knocking" noise, which, of course, is why they were called "knockers".
I can remember playing with these when I was a kid. My Grandma Testerman had a long green ash try that held the knockers. I think they were also green. They were see through. You could look through them and see the air bubbles on the inside of the glass balls, or marbles, what ever you want to call them.
Yes, this was before the age of Nintendo and Play Station and X box. I can remember counting as they bounced together. You do it slow, or fast, depending on who was watching and whether you wanted to show off or not.
Anyone else remember a set of these?
