Memorial Day

It is the VETERAN, not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the VETERAN, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the VETERAN, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the VETERAN, not the politician,
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the VETERAN,
who salutes the Flag,

It is the veteran,
who serves under the Flag.

May we all remember those who fought for our freedoms.
May we all remember those who are serving our country at this very moment.
As we remember them and our loved ones who are gone,
Remember them with a spirit of gratitude for what they have done for us.

Footnote:
This glorious flag sits atop Lover's Leap in Hannibal, MO.
over looking the Mississippi.

Comments:
Very well said and I ditto all of it.

I got "the veteran" parts in an email from a friend.

I wrote the last two paragraphs and I took the pictures of the flag.

You did a wonderful job of expressing just what Memorial Day should be about. Thanks

I am a veteran, actually. Thanks for honoring veterans with your words.
